Highlights of Telangana State History Facts

 The word Telangana = Trilinga / Worship of Lord Shiva i.e. Srisailam in Kurnool district, Draksharamam in East Godavari district and Kaleshwaram in Karimnagar district. 

Telangana state formed on 2nd June 2014 made of Precambrian Rocks in Indian History.

Telangana was a part of Hyderabad State. Earlier was ruled by Asafjahi (Nizam) rulers from 1724 to 1948 for 224 years with Nizam ul Mulk as founder of dynasty.

1853 - 1883 AD: Salarjung - I (Mir Turab Ali Khan) appointed as Diwan at the age of 24 by & under 3 Nizams Nasir-ud-Doula (1829 - 1857) ; Afzal-ud-Doula (1857 - 1869) & Mir Mahaboob Ali Khan (1869 - 1911).

1857 Revolt - Nizam supported British.

Folklore and department of Sub-Castes 

1828 - 1948: Socio-Cultural Awakening Movements

1872 - 1941: Library Movement first started by Somasundar Mudaliar. Kommaraju Laxmana Rao was father. 

1778 - 1978: around 200 Gond Tribals (under Ramji Gond) , Rohillas (Haji Rohilla) and Telangana Armed Peasant Struggle revolts took place. 

1853 - 2011: Press in Telangana (Newspapers) 

1907 - 1981: Women's Movement started with Bharat Mahila Samajam by Sitabai. 

1910 - 1929: Adi Hindu Dalit Movement by Bhagya Reddy Varma. 

1946 - 1951: Telangana Armed Struggle. 

1951 - Bhoodan Movement started by Acharya Vinobha Bhave. He toured entire India for 13 years covering 36,500 miles and got 40.4 million acres land as donation for Harijans. He designed Sarvodaya movement on socialist principles. 

1948 - 1956: Independent Hyderabad State. Chief Ministers - M. K. Vellodi (1948 - 1949) & Burgula Ramakrishna Rao (1952 - 1956).

1948 - 1970: Idea of Telangana includes Mulki Agitation (1952), State Reorganization Committee SRC (1953), Andhra pradesh state formation (1956), Public Employment Act for Mulki Protection (1957), Telangana Regional Committee TRC (1958), Telangana Agitation (1969), Telangana Praja Samithi TPS (1969), GO 36 (Mulki Rules - Transfer of Non-Mulkis from Telangana 1969), Eight Point Formula (1961) & Five Point Formula (1972). 

1971 - 1990: Mobilisational Phase includes Invalid Mulki Rules (1972), 5 Point Formula (1972), Six Point Formula (1973), G. O. 610 (1985), Naxalite Movement, etc. 

1991 - 2014: Towards the Formation of Telangana State (2nd June 2014) includes TLSO, Bhuvanagiri meeting (1997), Telangana Mahasabha meeting at Suryapet (1997),

   C) Dynasties in Telangana

a) Sultan Quli was founder of Qutbshahi kingdom. 

Years: 1518 - 1687 AD

 Origin: descendants from 'Hamdam' in Southern Iran in Central Asia. 

   Regions: Telangana, Andhrapradesh and Rayalaseema. 

Poets: Kancharla Gopanna (Bhakta Ramdas), Yogi Vemanna, Sarangu Thammayya, Addanki Gangadhara Kavi, Ponnaganti Telaganaraya, etc. 

Contemporaries: Ibrahim Lodhi in Delhi, Sri Krishna Devaraya of Vijayanagara empire, Akbar of Mughal empire, Yusuf Adilshah of Bijapur and Muhammed Shah, the Last Bahmani Sultan. 

1) Sultan Quli Qutb-ul-Mulk (1512 - 1543) : he was founder of independent Golconda kingdom. 

2) Jamsheed Quli-Qutbshah (1543 - 1550) : son of Sultan. He murdered his father and he died of Cancer. 

3) Ibrahim Quli Qutbshah (1550 - 1580) : Hussain sagar lake and Ibrahimpatnam tank was built. Telugu poet gave him title "Malkibhirama".

4) Muhammed Quli Qutbshah (1580 - 1612) : he built Charminar and Hyderabad City. He knows Urdu and Telugu. He had friendly relationship with Akbar. 

5) Sultan Muhammed Qutb Shah (1612 - 1626) : he was son-in-law of Muhammed Quli whom married his daughter Hayat Baksh Begum to him. 

   Masab tank and Khairatabad mosques were built. He was a good scholar in Persian language. 

6) Abdulla Qutb shah (1626 - 1672) : pleasure seeking and Selfish. 

7) Abul Hasan Tanashah (1672 - 1687) : last ruler. Contemporary of Aurangazeb and Shivaji. He was son-in-law of Abdulla. 

   Akkanna and Madanna were his ministers. 

    Kancharla Gopanna (Bhakta Ramadasu) was his Tahsildar who built Bhadradi Ramalayam. 

   Aurangazeb army captured Golconda in 1687 AD. 

 He was imprisoned at Bidar fort, later shifted to Daulatabad fort in 1699 AD.

D) Important Timeline Facts in Telangana

750 - 930: Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy temple in Vemulawada by Eastern Chalukyas. 

945 - 970: Golconda Fort by Kakatiya Kings. 

1562 - Hussain Sagar lake by Qutbshahi Kings. 

1591 - Charminar built by Nawab Quli Qutbshah on 19th October.

1662 - Chenna Kesava Swamy temple of  Gadwal fort built by Peda Soma Bhupaludu (Somanadri). 

1694 - Macca Masjid, largest and oldest mosque built by Mohd. Quli Qutbshah. 

1762 - 1803: Nizam Ali Khan, French and British traders established themselves. 

1798 - Nizama became subordinate feudatories to British Raj. 

1803-04: Koti Women's College. 

1846 - Osmania Medical College by British. 

1853 - Salarjung - I / Mir Turab Ali Khan appointed as Diwan for 30 years. 

1855 - Central Treasury for Government. 

1857 - Forest department was established in the period of Salarjung - I. 

1857 - 69: Chowmahalla Palace which is a group of 4 palaces - Tahniyath, Mahtab, Afzal and Aftab. Built by Nizam Mir Mahaboob Ali Khan. 

1861 - Customs department by Salarjung - I. 

1864 - Deccan Times was the first English Newspaper published in Secunderabad. 

1866 - One Anna was first Adhesive Stamp was printed. 

1869 - Postal department was created by Salarjung-I. 

1871 - Singareni Colliers

1872 - First Telugu Library in Secunderabad by Somasundar Mudaliar, later merged with Mahboob college in 1884.

1873 - Spinning and Weaving Mill

1874 - A Railway line of 110 miles connecting Wadi to Secunderabad was opened to Public on 8th October. 

1876 - Printing Press

1877 / 1874 - Secunderabad Railway station by Asafjahi dynasty. 

1884 - Falaknuma Palace

1885 - Telephone services introduced. 

1887 - Nizam college / Hyderabad college

1890 - First Girl School opened. 

1891 - Dina Varthamanam was the first Telugu Journal Published by Narayana Swamy Mudaliar. 

1892 - Arya Samaj branch started by Swami Nityanand in Hyderabad. Founder was Swami Dayanand Saraswati in 1875.

1892 - Asafia State Library / Telangana State Central Library was established in Afzalgunj. 

Kommaraju Lakshamana Rao was father of Library Movement. 

1893 - Falaknuma Palace built by Nawab Vikar ul-Umra. 

1895 - Ganesh festivals started first time. 

1901 - Sri Krishna Devaraya Andhra Bhasha Nilayamu library established by Kommaraju Lakshmana Rao. 

1901 - Indian Irrigation Commission. 

1905 - Andhra Samvardhini Library. 

1907 - Hyderabad / Deccan / Nampally Railway station constructed by Nizam. 

1908 - Erragadda Mental disorders Hospital. 

1910 - Iron and Deccan Button factory. 

1910 - Hyderabad Electricity Department. 

1912 - Hitabodhini was first Telugu Monthly Magazine started by Srinivasa Sharma from Mahaboobnagar. 

1913 - Assembly building / Silver Jubilee Town Hall. 

1914 - Salarjung Museum. 

1918 - Osmania University on 28th August / 22nd September. 

1918 - Osmania Arts College on 8th August. 

1919 - Osman Sagar tank built on Musi river. 

1919 - High Court Building designed by French Architect. 

1920 - Osmania Medical College. 

1921 - First Passenger train from Nampally Railway station was built. 

1921 - Singareni Collieries. 

1921 - City College was established. 

1926 - Golconda Patrika on 10th May. 

1927 - Himayat Sagar built on Musi river.

1930 - 35: Poolathota was first Children's Magazine under Kambhampati Appanna Sastry of Hanumakonda. 

1931 - Dalit school opened by Nizam government. 

1932 - Deccan Radio. 

1934 - Christian Missions opened St. George Grammar School in Hyderabad. 

1934 - First Airport was constructed at Begumpet, Hyderabad. 

1936 - Saahitimekhala was first literary organization in Telangana started by Ambatipudi Venkataratna Sastry in Nalgonda. 

1937 - Nizam Sugar Factory (NDSL) in Bodhan, Nizamabad district, was largest in Asia. 

     Mahatma Gandhi visited Hyderabad. 

1938 - Deccan Airways was started with an Aerodrome at Begumpet. 

1938 - Hyderabad State Congress formed in July ban by Nizam government on 8th September. 

1939 - Sirpur Paper Mill (SPM) . 

1939 - Constitutional Reforms Committee Appointed. 

1939 - Communist Party originated. 

1940 - Andhra Sahitya Parishat. 

1941 - First Mobile Library was started by TK Balayya (a Tulaq officer of Armoor in Nizamabad).

1941 - Golkonda Cigarette Factory / Hyderabad Deccan Cigarette factory. 

1941 - Polavaram project / Sri Ramapada Sagar project designed by Diwan Bahadur L. Venkata Krishna Ayyar. 

1941 - State Bank of Hyderabad on 8th August. 

1942 - Quit India Movement started in Hyderabad. 

 1943 - special school for Gonds in Adilabad dist.

1945 - Niloufer Hospital established. 

1946 - Sirpur Paper Mills (SPM). 

1949 - First Sarvodaya (welfare of all people) samiti meeting was held at Indore (MP). 

1951 - Visalandra, a Communist Journal with earlier name Prajashakti in 1941.

1951 - Salarjung Museum by Mir Yusuf Ali Khan Bahadur. 

1953 - Khammam district was formed. 

1957 - Assembly elections held. 

1961 - NIMS opened by 7th Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan. 

1961 - Central Krishna - Godavari Water Commission was Created. 

1963 - Nehru Zoological Park was inaugurated on 6th October. 

1965 - Manjeera Barrage was constructed. 

1965 - Agriculture University inaugurated by PM Lal Bahadur Sastri. 

1965 - Official Language Bill was adopted on 27th March. 

1965 - Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) was inaugurated on 11th December. 

1965 - Ramagundam Thermal Power Plant on 19th July. 

1967 - ECIL (Electronics Corporation of India) started in Hyderabad on 11th April. 

1968 - Naxalite Movement started by AICCCR on 14th May. 

1968 - Telugu Academy came into being on 6th August. 

1968 - Projects like Peddavagu and Nallavagu was constructed. 

1969 - Communist Party (Marxist) of India (CPI) was born on 22nd April in West Bengal. 

1969 - Committee like Justice Bhargava, Wanchoo Experts and Lalith Kumar was formed. 

1969 - First time Telangana Map unveiled at the premises of Reddy Hostel by T. Purushothama Rao on 11th April. 

1971 - Air Force Academy at Dindigal was inaugurated on 10th January. 

1972 - Begumpet Airport was inaugurated on 31st January. 

1974 - Eenadu paper entry in Vizag shifted to Hyderabad by Ch. Ramoji Rao group. 

1975 - Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) & Revolutionary Students Union (RSU) formed. 

1975 - World Telugu Conference (WTC) on 12th April and International Telugu Institution (ITI) on 8th September in Hyderabad. 

1975 - National Police Academy (NPA) and Hyderabad Central University (HCU) on 17th November. 

1976 - Birla Mandir on hillock of Nawbat Pahad by seth Ghanshyam das Birla. 

1976 - Telugu was implemented as the official language on 1st April. 

1977 - Kakatiya University in Warangal on 27th November. 

1978 - Ranga Reddy district was formed on the 15th August. 

1978 - Pochampadu project was renamed as Sri Ram Sagar project (1963) in November, Nizamabad district. 

1982 - Telugu Desam Party (TDP) formed by N. T. Rama Rao. 

1982 - City Development Authority in Warangal town. 

1984 - Udayam newspaper by Cine Director Dasari Narayana Rao. 

1984 - District Development Boards was formed on 13th January. 

1986 - Telangana Information Trust (TIT) was established. 

1988 - Telangana Information Trust (TIT) was formed to promote the activities of Telangana Information Centre established by E. V. Padmanabhan, Prof. Jaya Shankar and Keshav Rao Jadhav. 

1989 - Telangana Development Form (TDF) was established. 

1989 - Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage board was established. 

1994 - Medak Church, largest in Asia. 

1996 - Vaartha daily by ABK Prasad. 

1997 - Telangana Ikya Vedika (United Front) 

2001 - TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi) party formed by KCR (K. Chandrashekhara Rao) on 27th April. 

2001 - Telangana Journalists Forum (TJF) founded by Allam Narayana & Co. 

2006 - Koneru Ranga Rao Committee for violation of 1/70 act in which Non-Tribals cannot purchase or take lease any Girijan lands not even with Binami. 

2007 - Telangana NRI Association (TNA) was formed. 

2008 - Saakshi newspaper by Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. 

2010 - TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research) in Hyderabad. 

2011 - Namaste Telangana is the first Telangana based Telugu Daily Newspaper. 

2014 - Telangana Formation Day on 2nd June.
